This Multiplicity project represents the ideas of memory and time, and has been ongoing since around 2009, when I first picked up a medium format Holga ‘toy’ camera. The lo-fi quality and ability to create layered double exposure images that have dream-like qualities. For me these images represent the way our memories fade over time and blend into each other sometimes creating ‘new’ memories - what is real?. Because these images were often created over time (sometimes the 2 layers were taken days or even months apart), I often couldn’t remember what I had taken previously, so there was that element of chance and serendipity that came into play.
Over the past couple of years I have also been experimenting with an app which attempts to replicate the functionality and dream like qualities of the Holga so this series is a mixture of film and digital, the main difference is that for film images the two layers have been taken sometimes weeks apart rather than just minutes or seconds.
(A study in light and shade)
This project was a brief study in light and shadows in the Mathematical institute in the University of Oxford, named after maths impresario Andrew Wiles. This impressive and light building designed by Viñoly architects, has structures whose forms represent mathematical formulae.
Music has been a passion of mine from an early age, and I frequently combine my love of travel with music heading overseas for gigs and festivals. In this section you’ll find a small selection of my favourite images.
